Project Background

The Project:
The City of Wrangell has begun a master planning project for the community’s downtown waterfront. The overall purpose of the project is the creation of a site specific master plan for Wrangell’s downtown waterfront and to facilitate collaboration in the preparation of the Plan. The plan is intended to promote a mix of viable social and economic opportunities in the plan area, including commercial, waterfront development, and public uses areas and identify potential pedestrian or other linkages between the waterfront corridor and the newly renovated downtown corridor.

The project boundary is the waterfront extending from the Marine Service Center to and including the City Dock area. The current waterfront area services waterfront industrial, visitor, public open space, government, and commercial uses.

Public Involvement:
Similar to the Downtown Wrangell Revitalization Plan this project will include a significant public involvement process to engage the community to allow input and help direct the waterfront planning effort. The first series of public meetings will be during the week of January 12th, 2015. The planning team will be in the community from Monday, January 12th to Thursday, January 15th to host several public meetings and workshops. We hope you will be available to attend our public meetings but we also wanted to give you the opportunity to provide your early input on programming and development opportunities for the Wrangell waterfront prior to the first meeting. Receiving your input now will allow us to be more responsive for the January 12th meeting.

The Master Planning Team:
The waterfront planning team is being led by Corvus Design-Landscape Architects out of Juneau and supported by PND Engineers, Rain Coast Data and NorthWind Architects all out of Juneau. This team was largely involved in the development of Downtown Wrangell Revitalization Plan.
